For Pete's (and Lindsay's) Sake.

It must be hard being super-rich. How do you know if you've reached rock bottom? When you've got money falling out of your ass, what's the impetus to stop acting like a fool?

For everything except opiates, of course.

Man Arrested For Ransacking Helicopter For Drugs.

Ian Furbush wandered from the emergency room where he had been admitted onto the helipad at the Christiana Hospital in Newark, Deleware, and ransacked the helicopter looking for drugs. Stupidly, he left his work badge on the scene...

Today's Heroin News

I've only got one story today, but it's a real doozy.

In Buffalo, New York, a 5-year-old child brought packets of heroin to his daycare and distributed it amongst his friends. He presented the gift, which was wrapped in wax paper and imprinted with smiley faces, to six children, until he was caught by the teacher. The parents of the child totally super-duper promise that the heroin didn't come from their house. The kid says he found it on the way to school. He and his sisters are staying with their grandparents pending further investigation, but so far, the parents haven't been charged.

Today's Heroin News

In response to an increasing number of heroin overdoses, the Nassau County, New York district attorney joined forces with law enforcement to bring an end to a drug ring. Thirty-three people were arrested over the last week for possession with intent to sell a potent brand of heroin that had been responsible for 135 deaths in the last 3 years.

British television chef is on trial in Bali, Indonesia for possession of heroin. He spit and cursed at reporters who followed him as he was lead into the courtroom earlier today. Authorities found heroin in his pockets while searching him outside a Bali supermarket this past February. Ramsay intends to plead guilty in exchange for a shorter sentence, claiming that the drugs were for personal use only and not for distribution. He could face up to 10 years in prison should the powers that be decide to throw the book at him.

Yoko Ono recently discussed her use of heroin along with her late husband . She says that a greedy drug dealer's practice of lessening the drug's potency using baby powder as well as a fear of needles kept her and John from becoming addicts.

An English woman has plead guilty to child cruelty after traces of heroin were found in her 7 year old daughter's hair. She admits to injecting heroin in front of her daughter many times and allowing others to come to her home and smoke crack, heroin, and weed in her daughter's presence. The mother has lost custody of the child, who is being cared for by relatives.

A Wilmington, Deleware man was arrested after attempting to throw a packet containing 150 packages of heroin out his window during a routine traffic stop for driving with a revoked license. Because his window was rolled up, the package bounced back into the front passenter seat, in plain view of the cops.

Seriously, if one must deal large quantities of heroin, wouldn't one have his license properly up to date?

Today's Heroin News

Martin Laguna of Dallas, Texas has been charged with conspiracy to possess heroin with intent to distribute, heroin distribution, and possession of a firearm while trafficking drugs. He is believed to be a major supplier to the young folks in the Dallas area who have been mixing heroin with Tylenol PM to form the cheese concoction that's been killing kids since 2005.

A sexton of the Lutheran cathedral in Halberstadt, Germany is being held in custody for drug dealing after a large heroin stash was discovered in a church safe. He'd been working at the 13th-century cathedral for 18 years.

Bad Batch Alert! If you're in the Reno, NV area and you are a junky or you care about a junky, please warn them that Reno police suspect that a recent rash of heroin overdoses are the effects of a tainted or particularly strong batch.

A Baltimore police task force cracked a heroin ring that had been responsible for the distribution of heroin, crack, and cocaine yesterday. The bust included 10 arrests and uncovered such unlikely booty as a woman's purse made entirely of $100 dollar bills.

Today's Heroin News

A mixture of heroin and ketamine is causing violent reactions and hallucinations in users in the Victoria, British Columbia area. Because users are uninformed about the adulterants, they have been coming dangerously close to overdoses. Any readers who care about junkies in that area, please warn them to be careful.

Two Massachusettes women were given jail sentences this week for stealing baby formula that they intended to sell to obtain drug money. Both women were given the option of entering drug treatment facilities or serving additional jail time.

Here is a link to a BBC story on a mother whose twin sons are both addicted to heroin. Once again, the UK media is presenting the human side of addiction in a manner we just don't see in the US media. The mother's pain in the article is palpable...it's worth the read.

A 19-year-old boy was arrested for possession of $1 million in heroin at the Texas border on Monday. He is an American citizen, and he had 13 pounds of heroin hidden in the battery compartment of his Volkswagon Jetta.

A 64-year-old London woman has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for attempting to smuggle heroin from Qatar to Brussels through London. Her bag was searched after an officer noticed an unusually strong chemical smell, and upon opening the bad, observed that it had an unusually thick fake bottom. When the bottom of the bag was knifed, white powder poured out.

Bail was set at a quarter of a million dollars yesterday for Adrian Starks, who had been pursued by police since November of last year when a criminal complaint charged him with two counts of reckless homicide in overdose deaths of people he had sold heroin.

Lindsay Lohan In Rehab, Again.

Celebrity gossip is the best. It brightens up my obsessive research on heroin and addiction. Wendy Wayrad is reporting that Lindsay is in rehab again for an addiction to OxyContin.

Lindsay got a DUI this weekend, and cocaine was recovered from her car, which was impounded after her bodyguard drove it back to her house after she wrecked it.

The picture posted here was taken two days later, when Lindsay was caught by paparazzi puking her brains out in a gas station parking lot.

Poor Lindsay. I hope she works this stuff out. She has a lot of talent, and she's cute. It's hard watching these train wrecks.

Heroin in Baby Blankets.

The DEA recently released these photos of baby blankets used to hide heroin that they found in one of their recent busts.

Isn't this the ugliest thing you've ever seen?

Today's Heroin News

Today's heroin news is interestingly full of women...it's funny how the news will run in patterns. Either the news will all be UK-based, or it will be full of parents dosing their kids with methadone, or it will be strangely female, like today.

An Illinois woman has been sentenced to 5 years in prison after pleading guilty in Marion County court for bringing heroin into the jail and swallowing the baggy after she was caught. It's sad to me to see these instances of insane addict thinking...she was going to jail for a bail bond violation, and I'm pretty sure that the baggy of heroin she swallowed wasn't going to last her through her sentence.

Heroin addiction is reaching epidemic levels in , Pennsylvania. In the last five years, over a thousand people have died of overdoses, many from the outbreak of fentanyl-laced heroin last year.

Here is an interesting article from Slate.com's Explainer, describing the process the DEA uses to determine prices of drugs that they confiscate, for those of you who have wondered about the government values of drugs.

A 14 year old boy was arrested for possession of heroin with intent to distribute in a school zone among other charges in Jersey City, NJ. Police pursued the boy after they saw him beating another child with a stick, and then found him holding 5 bags of heroin.

An article in the Baltimore Examiner traces the costs of treating heroin addicts in the emergency room for heroin-related illnesses, and proposes alternative treatment plans to save taxpayers money. From boils to to respiratory and digestive problems, heroin addicts are generally broke and brimful of disease. Goddamn.

A Padiham, UK woman was arrested after attempting to smuggle and heroin into her incarcerated boyfriend via her "bra and knickers." In spite of police warnings against her behavior that they already found suspicious, she proceeded to give her boyfriend a sketchy-ass hug, reaching in her bra to get the drugs, and was nabbed by the watching cops. What a dumb cunt. I don't know why addicts think they are slick.

In the last few days, 44 people have been arrested in 5 countries for smuggling heroin into the US from . 19 of the people arrested were in California. The headed up the multi-agency sting operation.

Jaquelyn Hernandez, a 19 year old woman, has pleaded guilty to dealing heroin. Cops followed at least a dozen addicts to Hernandez. She has agreed to cooperate with the cops in investigations of other dealers in the area, including investigations of her father.

Authorities seized over 360 million US dollars worth of high-quality heroin from a truck in Tajikstan. Apparently there was enough of the stuff to make 6 tons of street heroin. It's one of the largest busts on record.

Today's Heroin News

Genia1960 sent me this link about the addictive properties of Oxycontin, along with a plea to make the highly addictive drug even more difficult to access after the recent plea deal from Purdue Pharma. Sounds good to me!

NATO is re-examining its anti-opium production efforts in Afghanistan after recent questions regarding their policy. Word has it that this year's bumper crop of poppies will exceed last year's crop by 20%, which will further reduce the cost of heroin and other opiates on the street.

Two San Antonia, Texas teens were charged with possession with intent to distribute after a Hello Kitty bag was found under the counter in the convenience store where they worked. Police had received a tip that heroin was being distributed out of the store.

Blood Paintings By Pete Doherty

Now who would a canvas smeared with his IV drug using, junkified, hepatitis-bearing-ass blood?

I mean, who besides me?

If I had money to blow on something ridiculous, I'd buy one. It's really bad, though. This guy, a tattooist named Vincent Castiglia, does some great blood paintings.

The Superficial reports that Doherty's selling the paintings because:
His friends say the paintings prove his innocence over claims he injected heroin into a passed out fan, and backup his story that he was actually drawing her blood to paint with.
Now, why is this better? Why should we feel relieved that he was only drawing blood from the unconscious girl to make these incredibly bad paintings?

Heroin, Afghanistan, Iraq, Oh My!

Go here, now. It's a powerful blog post linking the increasing popularity of heroin in the US with the mishandling of Afghanistan after our invasion. Pretty interesting stuff...and it's the first time I've seen ALL the heroin news tied together so succinctly.

Today's Heroin News

Here's a damned fascinating news story out of the UK. In spite of having been on methadone maintenance for 5 years to treat a heroin addiction, a couple was granted funding for fertility treatment from the UK's NHS. The couple had twins, and were allowed to bring their babies home after it was concluded that they were not born addicted to methadone.

Here's the two sides to the story: Professor Neil McKeganey, from the Centre for Drugs Misuse Research at Glasgow, says:
"It is quite wrong for the NHS to fund this sort of treatment for drug users. Studies show children of drug addicts are seven times more likely to take drugs. The NHS are struggling enough to cope with demand so giving drug users fertility treatment is just adding to problems already there. I'm not at all supportive of any drug addict being helped with any type of fertility treatment."
And Dr. Mary Hepburn, a lecturer in women's reproductive health, says:
"It is easy to judge someone on social circumstances. But I cannot see how drug addicts should be prevented from having this treatment any more than someone who smokes, or gets stressed or who has diabetes. In my view, smoking is far more harmful to a baby than a mum who takes drugs, including methadone."
This would NEVER be a debate in the US. My finger hurts.

Here's a story about the outbreak of China White heroin in St. Louis, where there has been a dramatic increase in heroin addiction in recent years.

And another terrible heroin parenting story: In Morgantown, West Virginia, a couple was arrested for shooting up in front of their 15 month old child in the K-Mart parking lot. Fuck.

Meth And Pop Rocks

I was surfing BoingBoing today, and I noticed that there is a scandalously delicious new kind of causing yet another drug scare. By combining with meth, those wicked, mad scientists in their meth labs have been attemting to do a few things:

1. Apparently, meth tastes really bad. They're trying to make it more palatable.

2. Pink, candy-like crystally substance in a baggie is less suspicious and therefore easier to transport than a white, crystally substance in a baggie.

3. Some have suggested, especially as many of the users getting caught with this stuff have been younger, first-time users, that dealers are targeting children. To me, this assertion sounds like the product of those mass-media drug scares. I've never understood why drug dealers would want to hook children. It seems like kids would go get caught immediately, be very likely to snitch on whoever sold them the drugs, and would not have any money. Maybe I'm crazy...

Here's a few links to read more.

Today's Heroin News

The hottest item in this morning's heroin news is the story of a drug mule who vomited a bag of heroin on an airplane traveling from to this weekend. The plane was turn around, and doctors found another 30 bags of white powder heroin in his stomach. In recent years, there have been several arrests of Australians of Vietnamese descent for trafficking heroin.

I always feel bad for these folks, even though they are helping relocate the poison that my husband uses to kill himself. I can't imagine what kind of situation you must be in to swallow 33 heroin bags.

and are apparently fighting about his using. He was due to enter a rehab center this weekend to receive an experimental implant that would help him quit heroin, but he failed to show up. After fighting with Kate about the matter, he was upset, and went on a big bender. He was arrested (again) for possession of narcotics.

I hope this kid gets it together. It's sad to keep reading about him fucking up, even though it's making my heroin news reports more interesting and fruitful.

An Indian woman was convicted to 9 years in prison for smuggling heroin in a Canadian court this week. She hid the bags in her suitcase. Terrible smuggling! Shove them up your ass like everyone else!

A man in a wheelchair was arrested for attempting to smuggle heroin and cocaine in Nigeria this weekend. What's up with Nigeria and the poor victim smugglers? Their cases are the worst...the grandmother last week, and now the wheelchair guy!
