He's Driving Me Crazy.

He's tattooing upstairs tonight, and he's like a barrel full of lies. Everything he is saying to this kid is a lie. It's completely ridiculous.

He is talking about this big planned trip to Greensboro on Friday, and he says that he will stay in a hotel room. How the fuck is he going to stay in a hotel room? He doesn't have any fucking money. Or does he have some fucking money? And why is his mother letting him use the car? And I guess this means that he isn't planning to have a job by Friday? And I thought I'd go out of town this weekend, but I guess I won't?

Goddamn fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. I don't want to have to break up. I don't want to be without him. My heart will break. My heart is broken.

I suppose it's relapse time. We're almost at 40 days now...way overdue.

Fuck.

Here's Johnny Cash singing "Busted." Story of my fucking life. I wish Johnny Cash would be 25 years old and come over and marry me...crazy fucking junky.

Goddamn myself!

Baltimore Love Thing

"Baltimore Love Thing" is ode to heroin addiction. The rapper sold crack and heroin before becoming famous.

Thanks to AJ for showing it to me!

Spiders On Drugs

Perhaps my favorite funny ever. I do wish they had a heroin spider, though...perhaps sitting on a web couch, scratching its face, like the heroin mouse in Mouse Party.

Dead Addict Of The Day

I'd taken a bit of a break from finding dead addicts because the letter O just wasn't promising, especially following the long and interesting list of musicians and writers from Joplin to Lund to Kerouac to Morrison.

is a rather interesting character, however, He was the lyricist and lead singer of the band , a late 70s ensemble. The band participated in the People Unite collective based in Southall, embracing anti-racist causes. The band reached a certain level of success prior to Owen's death from a heroin overdose in 1980, and while they continued to perform after he died, they never achieved the same notoriety.

As often happens, Owens had just weaned himself off the drug when he relapsed. Because his tolerance had dropped, he overdosed in the bathtub of his mother's apartment, and eventually died.

Here's a clip of them playing live in Paris in 1980:

Some Videos.

Here's a disturbing video featuring Geordie, a heroin addict. He shows his track marks, his scars from abcesses, and talks about when he first used.

And this video is a preview of the heroin addicted twins segment on Dr. Phil. (Yes, I'm blogging Dr. Phil now. This is what living with a man in recovery has done to me!) What frightens me most about these videos is the sense of recognition I feel. I'm so familiar with the picked face, the slurry, slow speech, the heavy eyes, the hanging head. How I lived with this man without knowing he was high amazes me now. I can look back over times when I knew something was wrong with him, when he was trying to talk to me urgently and so slowly and sluggishly failing to communicate...denial is a powerful thing, huh?

Meth Addict Films His Own Death From Addiction

I saw this article on MSNBC.com about Shawn Bridges, a meth addict who documented his death from the effects of his addiction, and I found it heart-wrenching. There are clips of him in the hospital attached to the artcile.

His death was chronicled with the assistance of a television videographer, and it was sold last year under the title "No More Sunsets." He died of heart failure in a bed in his father's home on Monday at the age of 35.

We are dealing with our own effects of the addiction on our bodies, and watching this man suffer makes me realize how lucky we really are. There is a couple I saw at one of my Nar-Anon meetings who are struggling to accept a son who has brain damage related to his drug use. The father had tears in his eyes while he explained to the group that the only time he felt like he saw his son anymore was when he played his guitar...I'm so glad that my husband is not gone from me, yet.
