Today's Heroin News

A mixture of heroin and ketamine is causing violent reactions and hallucinations in users in the Victoria, British Columbia area. Because users are uninformed about the adulterants, they have been coming dangerously close to overdoses. Any readers who care about junkies in that area, please warn them to be careful.

Two Massachusettes women were given jail sentences this week for stealing baby formula that they intended to sell to obtain drug money. Both women were given the option of entering drug treatment facilities or serving additional jail time.

Here is a link to a BBC story on a mother whose twin sons are both addicted to heroin. Once again, the UK media is presenting the human side of addiction in a manner we just don't see in the US media. The mother's pain in the article is palpable...it's worth the read.

A 19-year-old boy was arrested for possession of $1 million in heroin at the Texas border on Monday. He is an American citizen, and he had 13 pounds of heroin hidden in the battery compartment of his Volkswagon Jetta.

A 64-year-old London woman has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for attempting to smuggle heroin from Qatar to Brussels through London. Her bag was searched after an officer noticed an unusually strong chemical smell, and upon opening the bad, observed that it had an unusually thick fake bottom. When the bottom of the bag was knifed, white powder poured out.

Bail was set at a quarter of a million dollars yesterday for Adrian Starks, who had been pursued by police since November of last year when a criminal complaint charged him with two counts of reckless homicide in overdose deaths of people he had sold heroin.

The police have been making the rounds and contacting all the known street users. Unfortunately the situation has been getting worse over this past week.
